Canada needs Bill C-34 to help protect children online
Adults looking to harm children have unsupervised and direct access on online platforms 24-7, and the risk of harm is rising. In 2025, Cybertip.ca reports concerning luring increased by 300% compared to 2020.
Unlike offline, where governments have rules and regulations for companies that serve children, online guardrails simply do not exist. The responsibility and blame has entirely — and unfairly — been placed on parents.
Children now have devices wherever they go, making it impossible for parents to oversee all of their child's online activity. Canada urgently needs legislation that protects children online like we protect them offline.

How you can help

Tell your MP this is important to you
Write, call, or email your Member of Parliament and let them know why you think it is critical that the government pass Bill C-34 to protect children.
Here are some key points to help:
- Children are at risk every day, in 2025, Cybertip.ca, Canada’s tipline to report the online sexual exploitation of children received approximately 30,000 reports from the public, and C3P’s Support Services managed nearly 4,000 requests from survivors, youth, and/or their parents.
- Reports to C3P are increasing in severity. In 2025, C3P received nearly 3,000 reports of sextortion– a major increase from 460 reports in 2020. Reports of sexually explicit Ai-generated images and videos of children increased by 125% between 2023 and 2024, and an additional 570% between 2024 and 2025.
- Project Arachnid, a victim-centric set of tools operated by C3P, has sent over 141 million takedown notices to more than 1,500 electronic service providers spanning nearly 100 countries since launching in 2017. Each notice sent helps remove child sexual abuse material from the internet.
- Canada currently lacks regulations for social media platforms where our children and youth spend a significant amount of time. I believe that all children should be protected online as they are offline.

Dear MP ______,
I am contacting you today because I believe that children urgently need to be protected online as they are protected offline, which is why I support Bill C-34.
Canada currently lacks regulations for the social media platforms where our children and youth spend increasing amounts of their lives. Technology companies have had years to show they put children first and continue to fail. A look at recent headlines easily shows that: https://protectchildren.ca/en/press-and-media/tech-timeline/
Children are at risk online every day. Comparing 2020 to 2025, Cybertip.ca, Canada’s tipline for reporting the online sexual exploitation of children, saw a 300% increase in reports of online luring.
I’m contacting you because this is important to me. Parents can’t do this alone and it’s time for governments to hold social media platforms accountable for the harm they’ve caused our children.
Canada needs regulations for social media platforms to protect our kids - they are our future and should be our priority. I am asking you to stand up for children and support Bill C-34.
