Statement: Support for New Commissioner of Teacher Professional Conduct

Statement on behalf of Lianna McDonald, Executive Director for the Canadian Centre for Child Protection

For Immediate Release

The Canadian Centre for Child Protection (C3P) offers our congratulations to Noni Classen for her appointment as Manitoba’s Commissioner of Teacher Professional Conduct.

Noni contributed to C3P’s mission of safeguarding children in schools for over 20 years. She has led groundbreaking educational programming, helped shape public awareness, and spearheaded the creation of child sexual abuse prevention resources such as Kids in the Know and Commit to Kids which are used across Canada.

Noni’s work at C3P has been informed by her background in academic programming for youth with complex trauma as well as assisting in the development of a trauma-informed alternative high school.

C3P has long advocated for an independent commissioner to oversee and investigate professional misconduct in classrooms to enhance public trust in our school system and protect students. We’re confident Noni will provide wisdom, informed judgement, and expertise in her new role. Her professional excellence, unwavering passion, and leadership will be remarkable contributions to the Commissioner’s office.
